Want to play Table
Tennis??
Need to practise??
Solution!! Over
50’s sessions at the Lancaster Leisure Centre
Thursday Mornings
10.30am – 12.30pm Nominal cost
Why not join in - Mike Payne 01332 557162 for more
information
The Derby Table Tennis Association
is initiating 50+ sessions at the Gymnastics
Centre (Formerly the Lancaster Sports
Centre). The Association is keen to bring
players back into the game, not only for
their sake, but possibly to increase the
numbers keeping the game alive in all manner
of roles.
Table Tennis for the O50s
Thursday 5th November begins a 6 week
session of table tennis at the Derby
Gymnastics Centre (Formerly the Lancaster
Sports Centre - top floor above the Chapel
Street car park). Starting at 10:30 for 2
hours, for over 50s of any standard to come
along and join in friendly games. The fee
for these trial weekly sessions is £2. The
venue has 3 tables and time between games
will be minimal. All you need is suitable
footwear as initially rackets will be
provided. There is a cafe at the Centre. For
more information call Mike on Derby 557162
or just turn up on the day.
It would be useful if some Association
players volunteered to come along to smooth
things along.
When the draw was made
last week, 11 matches were scheduled. This
was an error on my part, as only 9 matches
should have been drawn. The reason for this,
is that we have 41 teams and need to get it
down to 32, therefore have to eliminate 9
teams. As the last two matches drawn were :
|
C.Donington 4 |
v |
Rolls Royce 7 |
|
Jacksdale MW2 |
v |
Rolls Royce 2 |
All 4 teams will be given a bye into Round 2
.
All players should note the
following changes to the D&DTTA league.
I've been informed that Sandiacre TTC has
folded, resulting in the following changes :-
Sandiacre 1 - Have resigned from the league.
Sandiacre 2 - Will play at Sawley as Sawley 3.
Sandiacre 3 - Will play at Waingroves as
Waingroves 1.
Net result, 1 team lost to the league.
Today I received a call from John Grace
informing me that Waingroves 2 will not be
playing in the league ( due to changing work
commitment for 2 of their players ).
We now have a total of 41 teams registered -
Prem 10, Div1 10, Div2 11, Div3 10. These
changes arrived too late for the handbook, so
players are reminded to use the website for all
the up to date information.
All clubs are expected
to send at least one rep to the meeting,
where the league fees should be paid. The
hand books for the new season will be
distributed. Table tennis balls can also be
purchased from Bill Taylor at a very
reasonable price.
Changes to Rules are marked in red/ purple
( Proposed by the Management Committee )
Rule 24
a) Re-arrangement of matches may be made by mutual
agreement of the team captains but not in the 72 hours
before the scheduled
start of the match. After that the match will go ahead
with each team either
players playing up from a
lower ranked team in
their club or playing
with less than three players.
If no agreement is
reached the club not
in default shall be awarded the matches, subject to
confirmation by the Management Committee after
consideration of any special circumstances.
A team may seek to rearrange up to a
maximum of three matches in any one season. For
teams whose home venue is on School premises an extra
two re-arrangements will be allowed provided the
additional re-arrangements are consequent of the home
team’s school venue not being available.
b) Following the final week of league matches teams have
two weeks to complete outstanding matches.
( Proposed by Frank Taylor and John Cowell ) Rule 19
Scoring. Points shall be awarded in each match as follows:
3 points for any win, 2 points each team for a draw 5-5:
1 point for a team losing 4-6 or 3-7: no points for a
team losing 2-8, 1-9 and 0-10.
( Proposed by L Allwood and Jon Bayliss ) Rule 17
System of play. Each team shall consist of three players
(a,b,c)
who will be nominated to play the nine singles, a fourth
player (d) may be nominated at the start of the match to
play in the doubles.

The Derby Association
staged the Derby Closed championships at the Draycott
Table Tennis Centre on Sunday 29th March.
A report of the
days play ( by Graham Woodcock ) can be found on the
Tournaments link
Having had many conversations
with many of you over the past few months I am glad
to report that the idea of a Coaching Summer League
is to happen.
This will take place on a Tuesday night at Robert
Sutton College, Burton starting on April 28th
and run every week (except May 12th)
until the end of July. Helen Lower will be running a
Junior Coaching session between 7 & 8.30pm for a
maximum of 24 juniors. This will be followed by a
two player per team league with a maximum of 24
teams. The league will be split on a two or three
tier system depending on numbers and cost will £2
per person for both sessions (i.e. £2 for the
coaching and £2 for each player to play).
Although at this stage nothing is 100% confirmed I
have had strong indications that there will be 3 or
4 teams from Birmingham, 2 or 3 from Stoke, 2 or 3
from Shrewsbury, 1 from Leamington as well as though
closer to home so the standard should be extremely
high and give everyone a strong challenge to keep
their eye in over the summer.
The social area will always be open for players and
parents to relax while not playing and the server
will be open for drinks etc.
As will all new adventures it will be slightly a
journey into the unknown but with the interest shown
so far I think it will be a fantastic experience for
all.
So could all of you that are interested in
supporting this please confirm back to me ASAP or if
you have any questions please let me know.
I
look forward to seeing as many of you as possible
over the summer.
Many Thanks

From Simon Price :
With just 2 weeks left for the winter league to
finish and a final week decider in the offing, I
would like to thank all of you who have played in
the first year of this competition for making it
such a success.
The summer league this year is splitting into two
days. The Tuesday will feature some very strong
teams from such places as Stoke, Birmingham and
Shrewsbury, with Wednesday being more for the
younger and up and coming players. The first
Wednesday will be April 29th and the
league will run until the end of July with the
normal £2 per player subs per night. Games will
start around 7.30pm straight after the junior
coaching session (5-7.15pm (£3)). For those of you
who want to attend both the coaching and the league
the cost will be £4 saving a £1. I have spoken to
many of you already and will be over the next few
weeks to finalise teams etc. So if you want to join
in with the fun please let me know and see if we can
make the 5th year bigger and better than
ever.
Hope to see you all there.
Cheers

The Derby Association
staged the Derby 4* Junior tournament at the
weekend, with players entering from the Home
Countries and the Channel Islands. Local player
Abbie Milwain (Chellaston School and the Draycott
club) was seeded to meet the No1 seed Emily Bates
from Grantham in the semi finals of the Cadet (Under
15) event. Abbie made it there after the group
session and then 2 knockout rounds. She started
slowly in the semi but came back taking the 3rd game
to 6 but couldn't maintain the pressure and lost the
final game 11-6. As a measure of distance between
the 2 players, Emily is ranked 3rd, with Abbie at 19
in England which is no mean achievement.
On Sunday Abbie was not
seeded in the Junior (Under 18) event but still won
through to the quarter final where she lost to the
3rd seed Yolanda King (Sussex).
A full report of the 2
days play ( by Geoff Ware ) can be found on the

: Waingroves 1st Team
Waingroves 1st
team ( Derby Premier division ) have been hit by
numerous injuries and have been struggling
to play their fixtures. They have been hit by
further player loses. As they
have only played 5 matches so far, the decision
has been taken to scratch those matches.
The league tables have been updated, I will not
be adjusting the individual averages for games
played against Waingroves 1st.
Waingroves 1st were scheduled to play Castle
Donington 2nd in Round 4 of the Cup, C/D 2 have
been put through to the next round.
